The Beauty of Combining Restorative & Yin Yoga

What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a gentle practice focused on deep relaxation. Using props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks, the body is fully supported in restful poses that are held for longer durations. This allows your muscles to release tension, your mind to quiet, and your nervous system to shift into a state of calm. By activating your body's relaxation response, restorative yoga helps reduce stress, supports the immune system, and promotes healing.

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga complements restorative practice by targeting the deeper connective tissues of the body, including fascia, ligaments, and joints. Yin poses are held for extended periods, allowing you to gently stretch and soften tight areas, creating flexibility and improving circulation. Unlike active yoga practices, Yin invites stillness, patience, and a deep focus on the breath as you release into each pose.

Together, Restorative and Yin Yoga create a powerful practice that works on both physical and emotional levels. Restorative yoga helps your body and mind rest, while Yin yoga helps release deep tension and promote flexibility. This combination offers you the perfect balance between stillness and stretch, guiding you toward a state of deep relaxation and balance.

Whether you’re seeking relief from stress, improved flexibility, or just a moment of quiet in a busy life, this class offers you the chance to reset and renew.

Come as you are, and leave feeling rested, restored, and revitalised.

What is Yoga Nidra/NSDR?

Yoga Nidra, also known as Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR), is a powerful practice of guided meditation that allows you to hover between wakefulness and sleep. In this deeply restful state, your body enters a mode of repair and rejuvenation, while your mind unwinds from the tensions of daily life.

Yoga Nidra offers a unique opportunity to rest consciously—experiencing the benefits of sleep while remaining gently aware. It helps soothe the nervous system, balance hormones, and alleviate stress, making it an excellent practice for anyone looking to improve their sleep, mental clarity, and emotional well-being.

A 15-minute session of Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR) has been shown to provide benefits equivalent to approximately one to two hours of deep sleep in terms of restoring mental clarity, reducing stress, and enhancing relaxation.
